Icelandic band Sigur Ros asked a dozen film makers to create whatever comes to mind visually when they hear a song from the band’s new album, Valtari. “we never meant our music to come with a pre-programmed emotional response. we don’t want to tell anyone how to feel and what to take from it. with the films, we have literally no idea what the directors are going to come back with. none of them know what the others are doing, so hopefully it could be interesting.”
December 7-9, the band will screen the Valtari Mystery Film Experiment across the globe, in all seven continents. The gallery houses 17 commissioned “official” and fan-created short film interpretations of the album. To view the entire selection please visit the band’s website, here.
The most recent creation by Swedish director Christian Larson (director of Telephone by Lady Gaga) and choreographed by Moroccan dancer Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui is breathtaking in a way that only something so human can be. The movement is pure. The emotion is palpable. It is nothing short of a masterpiece.
