Anne Ten Donkelaar

Anne Ten Donkelaar‘s series “Broken Butterflies” was created out of a collection of damaged butterflies the artist had collected. Anne examined each broken insect and decided to repair them all according to their needs. If the creature was missing a wing, she carefully constructed a new one with pins and thread. One had lost her body, so she gave her a propeller and a new flying tool. With thread, wires, old maps, roots, embroidery and maps, she carefully constructed a new skeleton for each. The result is this fascinating menagerie.
