Newsha Tabakolian

Self taught, Newsha Tavakolian became a professional photographer for the Iranian press at the age of 16. From there she worked for nine other reformist publications, all of which have since been banned by the Iranian government. By 21 she was traveling the world, documenting war, natural disasters and daily life in Lebanon, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Yemen. She’s been published in an impressive number of publications, including TIME Magazine, Newsweek, Le Figaro, The New York Times, Le Monde, National Geographic and Colors Magazine. Her stunning photographs for this series on Iraq showcase her extremely talented photographic eye and brave she is.
